CENTENARY CELEBRATION WEEK
APRIL 10th to APRIL 15th 2016
With the conclusion of the Centenary Celebration Week we can now reflect on what has been a most exciting and successful week for the Club. The week involved over 300 hundred participants, including approximately 110 from interstate and overseas representing 42 Clubs including 32 of the world’s Royal Clubs.
The week began with the Flag Raising Ceremony and Cocktail Party. The windy conditions tested our flag bearers but it was a magnificent sight seeing all the flags fly while in the background the sounds of the bagpipes rang out over the course. There was a tremendous vibe in the Clubrooms for the cocktail party with a string quartet made up from members of the TSO, including member Ivan James, providing background music. With 228 tickets sold one can only imagine how we would have coped pre our recent clubhouse renovations.
With the week off to a good start the golfers were keen for play on Monday morning. This theme continued on throughout the week. The feedback on the course was most flattering and a testament to Course Superintendent Stephen Lewis and his staff given recent weather patterns and lack of recycled water. Especially flattering were the comments on the condition of our greens.
Tasmanian hospitality was the winner on Monday night with as many as seventy of our guests being entertained by members. The hosting and friendships formed from this continued throughout the week.
A special highlight was the Government House reception on Wednesday night where Her Excellency, the Honourable Kate Warner, AM Governor of Tasmania and Mr Warner played host to invited guests.
The week concluded with the Centenary Celebration Dinner at Wrest Point Hotel which was attended by 300 members and guests. The evening was highlighted by speeches from Her Excellency, immediate Past Captain of the R&A Sandy Dawson, and keynote speaker, Golf Australia Chairman John Hopkins who was fresh off the plane from attending the Masters at Augusta. The theme for the night was Royal Hobart Golf Club – The Past, Present and Future. This was portrayed during the night by three entertaining video presentations with our members as the star attractions. Links to these vidoes will be made available on our club website shortly so as those in attendance can view them again and those who couldn’t make it to the Celebration can share in the entertainment of the night.
With the week concluded it is important to thank the over fifty members who volunteered their services during the week and helped to make the event an outstanding success.
